Had another first today. I decided to do a combination with the whiskers and use both colored pencil and then finish them with acrylic paint. I was using a really small 18/0 liner brush. Maybe to small? I don't
know. I've never used one this small before even with my watercolor
painting. I've also never used acrylic before and so I set about yesterday practicing and practicing and practicing. When I was consistent and fairly happy with the results I was getting on my practice paper, it was time to tackle the original. So, I started doing the whiskers today. They aren't done yet but I needed to take a break and feed my horse and dog. I will probably finish this painting tomorrow and then it will be entered in the contest :) First contest I've ever entered.
Hope you like it so far!
Thanks for stopping by :)
the whiskers look good :) no, don't think the brush is too small, whiskers are usually not even noticed when looking at an animal so you dont want too big of a brush
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment Jennifer! You are such an encouragement to me :) I still need to paint those last few whiskers and then put this one to bed! I was thinking maybe the brush was to small because it wasn't holding enough paint to get the whole whisker without stopping and then starting with a new load of paint to finish the whisker. After talking with other artists, I guess that's the way works.
DeleteTurned out really lovely Peggy - very unusual subject and completely charming. I think the whiskers are perfect in thickness, least I didn't notice anything until I saw you point them out, looked again and all I see are pristine whiskers. Eyes and fur are perfect, color of the pink tongue is excellent and I love the touch of habitat that you included, moves your eye around the page better. Great luck to you with your contest!!! Sincerely, KarenESP
