Fletcher - Finished

After adjusting Fletcher's eyes to a little more Amber here is the final for Fletcher :)
This is my second ever painting with a background!
My first background was "Peek a Boo" (the Tiger).
I really like how the background (even abstract like this one ) adds so much more to the painting and I think I see a lot more backgrounds in my future.
Of course the sides that don't have pastel will be under frame.  I decided to leave a border around for easier handling once it was detached from the board I was using to paint this one.

Lioness

OK, I can now reveal what I painted for the Wetcanvas challenge.  I tried a 5 x 7 piece on Ampersand board.  First time with Ambersand.  Still not sure what to think about it.

Today's Painting

I worked on something a little different today than Fletcher.  I have some 5 x 7 Ampersand boards and decided to try one of them with my Pastel Pencils. On WetCanvas,  under the Animal and Wildlife forum there is a new challenge thread called, Fur, Scales and Feathers so I worked on that today.  However, you won't get to see it until the reveal date.  Don't worry it's only two more days LOL!
Hope you had a great day!

Fletcher - WIP Day three

I worked on Fletcher some more today.  Trying to get the background figured out and also worked on his eyes, more fur and his nose and mouth.  Still have a long ways to go with this!

Fletcher - WIP

I got Fletcher transfered to my pastel paper and actually remembered to scan an image before starting to add the pastel.
Here are the two progress pictures for today.

Fletcher - WIP

Trying to get the line drawing mapped out for this one! For some reason I always try to get to much detail in the line drawing.   According to some artists, the line drawing is supposed to just be a basic outline but other artists say to put as much detail in as you can into the line drawing.  I do a little of both
Oh well, introducing Fletcher

The original photo doesn't show any ears so I've changed the composition slightly to include a little of the top ear so that it looks better.

Landscape

This is my third landscape I've ever done.  I'm taking a Webinar class by Johannes Vloothuis on the Essentials of Painting rocks.  Well, here's my rocks.  I think I need a lot more practice!

Horse Fleming Finished

There were a couple things that were bothering me on the last part of this, so I changed them!
I decided I better sign it and be done with it before I ruin it LOL!

Horse Fleming Refining

Worked more on refining this painting.  Added more definition to the bone structure of her face, added more modeling to her neck and added the whiskers.  I also added more abstract type shapes and different colors to one side of the background to try and make the horse stand out from the paper more. I also added a little more light area to her eye and reflected the sky as well.
I still haven't signed it so more is coming LOL!

Horse Fleming continued

I worked on this today.  I chose an interesting color of paper.  It's an Orange color but that's not the actual name of the color.  I got the Mi-Teintes assorted pastel papers and they don't actually say what the colors are on the pad.
Anyways, not sure I will use it again LOL!  This is a huge learning curve to have that much color in the paper and how the pastel responds with the color LOL!  Well, I did say I liked a challenge and this one is definitely providing that challenge!
I also had issues getting this to scan correctly.  The second and last picture are pretty accurate but that first picture is way to orange!
