Silly Hat - Update 4

Phew, getting this kind of detail in this small a painting is a challenge for my skill and eyesight!
I have learned a lot from creating this painting.  I've learned how to start a painting by blocking in colors.  I learned that with Pastel, it works better to start with the darkest darks and transition to the lights.  I've also learned that my darkest darks need to be darker to start with!
I'm at the point now where I think I need to put this away for a couple days before I look at it again and see if anything needs adjusting.

Thanks for stopping by!

Silly Hat

Did you ever start something and lose complete track of time?  Well, I did that today!  I sat down and worked on my painting for three hours first thing this morning.
I'm really liking how this is coming along and it's so much fun!  So, there goes three hours.
Then I noticed some things that needed to be corrected with this.  So, I sat down for just a few minutes......two hours later.....
Now I really need to get the chores done that need doing LOL!
I hope you are having a fantastic day!
Thanks for stopping by :)

Silly Hat

I've started on  my Ampersand 5 x 7 pastel painting.  So far, I'm completing the background and blocking in the body structure and shadows.
I'm liking how this is going so far.
Hope you will enjoy the process as much as I do!
So far I'm using Rembrandt Pastel rounds.

ACEO Horse - Finish

I've completed my first ACEO.  It's on Strathmore Bristol Smooth card with soft pastel and pastel pencil.  This was fun to do and also interesting and challenging to draw something this small!

Little Doodle

Haha, as the title suggests, this is a little doodle to challenge myself with the ACEO size of drawing.
It's not finished and probably wont be.  Again, it's not done with proper tools  but was done with copy paper and 0.5mm mechanical pencil.
Hope you like it anyways!

ACEO Horse

I like a challenge but I'm beginning to think twice about this size of drawing LOL!
I don't have a magnifying glass that I can use while drawing so this is definitely a challenge!
I keep walking by it and seeing other things that look way wrong so.... here's today's effort.
I've also been doodling today so thought I would share those.  I did them pretty fast and they are on lined note book paper LOL! Mostly I was trying to capture the look and posture. I'm probably going to be doing both for real now that I can see what's needed.
The dog is in the water..not sure that's what it looks like LOL!

ACEO Horse

I was really tempted to just delete these posts.  No matter how much I play with this, I'm still not happy with it.  Note to self, Strathmore Bristol Smooth doesn't really play nicely with Pastel!
One thing I did accomplish while playing with this tiny size is got a pretty close match to actual colors. I decided since this is my journey and it's for all explorations, I'm leaving this and showing you the final LOL!
Working this small is definitely an art all in itself. If I want to continue with it, I'm going to have to practice just as hard as with the rest of my art.

ACEO Horse

I played with an ACEO today.  Wow are those a challenge because they are so small!  In case you don't know what an ACEO is.  It stands for Art, Cards, Editions and Originals.  These trading cards are 2.5" x 3.5".
I wanted to see what Strathmore Bristol Smooth would be like with my pastels and also was attempting a color match for my next two portraits.  So, here is the playing for today. I'm still changing things so it will be different tomorrow.

Two paintings

I couldn't decide between two pictures so I'm doing them both.  One will be on Ampersand Pastel Board and the other one will be on Mi-Teintes Pastel Paper.  They are both going to be smaller than I've done before.  They are both 5 x 7.  They will both be done starting with Rembrandt and moving onto Faber Castell Pastel PITT pencils for the details.
Today I got the drawings completed and transferred.  Tomorrow I will start working on them.  Wish me luck!

He Has Love in His Hands - FINAL

I still wasn't happy so made a few more changes.  Can you find them?
Hope you like it.

He Has Love in His Hands

I wasn't happy with the handlers back arm so I re-vamped that a little bit.  Also added more darks.
I'm pretty happy with this!
Thanks for looking.
Hope you like it as well!

He Has Love in His Hands

OK, I'm still puttsing with this :)
Went darker on the horses barrel, handlers hat and shirt. I think with the added contrast, it looks a lot more interesting!
I also wasn't happy with the handlers mouth so I've changed that again.
 Thanks for looking!

He Has Love in His Hands

I worked a lot more on this portrait.  Adding more details, adding more contrast etc....
I'm closer to being done with it but still not quite there.
Hope you are enjoying the progress as much as I am :)

Love in his Hands

There were a lot of first with this.  I broke out my new Rembrandt Pastel Sticks for this painting.  I also did a human for the first time in pastels.  Most of this was done with the Rembrandt's but I did use the PITT Pastel Pencil for a few areas.

I ended up painting this on the right side of the paper but up till now, I've flipped the paper over and used the wrong side.  I think I'll definitely go back to the wrong side unless I really want the waffle look for texture.

I've signed this but after seeing it on here, it's not done!

Hope you enjoy!
