African Grey Parrot -- WIP Day 10
I can't believe I've been working on this parrot for over a week now. Good thing each day is only about two hours.
I've bit the bullet and I'm attempting a background. No detail but will hopefully support the parrot without competing..... We'll see if what I'm attempting works out.
That's what this is all about right....Explore and learn what works and what doesn't. Though it is SCARY to try new things on something you've put a lot of time into!
I'm starting the background using Prismacolor Verithins for this part and some of the color ideas came from a wonderful equine artist Carrie L. Lewis
The order is basically light to dark but a lot of mixing in between as well.
Dark Brown, True Green, Cerelean Blue, Apple Green, Golden Rod, True Blue, Canary Yellow, Grass green, Ultramarine Blue, Olive Green, Terra Cotta and PeacockGreen. Hopefully that's the whole list.
Here is today's progress.

I'm Here and Grey Heron Revealed
Yesterday I was able to reveal my Grey Heron painting challenge so now you get to see it as well. I used Prismacolor Colored Pencils and Stonehenge paper. The paper size is 4 x 5 and I wished I would have made it bigger but it was fun to do. I also practiced getting believable water.

African Grey Parrot - WIP Day 5
I really did some playing around with the colors of the chest and I like it a lot better!
I also added some more to the face, neck and head and started drawing and defining the wing.
Here is the progress from today!

African Grey Parrot - WIP Day 4
I'm really starting to like how this is looking now. This is so much fun mixing the colors to get the look of a "singing" grey. Today was a lot more of the same. Basically I'm using the same color combos as listed earlier. Think of the cloud blue and light peach as your lightest grey. Periwinkle and Celdon green as your next...and so on. Not everything gets all the color combos only the darkest areas.
Here is today's progress.

African Grey Parrot - WIP Day 3
Remind me again why I am doing this portrait LOL! It's so much fun to use the complementary colors to get the grey color but this is a lot of work too!!
Feathers are so tedious but here is today's progress.

African Grey Parrot -- WIP Day 2
Today's progress. I'm still not to thrilled with how this is working out but I still have more color combos to add. Doing feathers sure is tedious!

African Grey Parrot - WIP
I am painting this boy using that complimentary color scheme again. That makes the painting "sing" as Arlene Steinberg says and I have to agree with her. It does take some work and a few layers before the colors start looking like "grey". Since this image is a 9 x 12, it's going to take some time to get it done.

I'm here
Just to let you know I'm still working on paintings. The one I just completed is 4 x 5 on Stonehenge and is a portrait of a Grey Heron. Painted without using Grey. All complementary colors where used. In other words. Light blue paired with Light peach. Green paired with red. Etc... I would post it here but again, it was done for a art challenge on Wetcanvas and we can't reveal until the 20th.. Sorry you have 18 more days before you'll see it LOL!
I will be starting something new this afternoon so stay tuned for that.
