Equine Muzzle Sketch

This sketch started at as just getting an accurate nostril and morphed from there.  It's approx. a 4 x 5 and it's drawn with a #2 pencil on heavyweight drawing paper.  I'm having fun with all these little studies.  Are you tired of them yet? Hope not :)

Hope you like it!

Equine Anatomy Sketches

Practicing more positions using the equine anatomy of the forelegs.  I "think" I'm getting more accurate without having to rely on looking at a photo!
Hope you like them :)

Sketching

Today's sketches was all about Equine anatomy. Accuracy is very important when drawing animals.  Even if it's only a quick sketch of the animal.  I've been studying the anatomy of various animals and todays free hand sketches was the wonderful Equine :)

Musings

Do you ever feel that you want to try everything or is that just some quirk with me?
Have you ever used Gouache?  I just heard about that style of painting and now I'm thinking about trying it as well.  I still need to get some acrylics and see how I like them too.
Should I just stop trying new things and concentrate on one or just a couple or should I just keep exploring and having fun with them all?  Is there such a thing as stretching yourself to thin in art?
So far, all the mediums and papers I've tried, I've enjoyed :)
Even in the mediums I've tried (ie: pastel) I still want to try so many different supports (ie: velour, suede, pastelmat, gesso coated).  When I started this journey, who knew there were so many choices and so much fun to be had by picking up a pencil (graphite).

2nd Digital painting

Yesterday I played more with the digital art but instead of using Paint, I used Photoshop.  I didn't even know you could do this with photoshop until a friend mentioned getting GIMP.  After looking into the GIMP, I found out it was a lot like photoshop and since I had photoshop already, I went and played with it.
I knew you could manipulate photos but didn't know you could start out with a blank piece of paper and just draw!
A friend of mine took an absolutely gorgeous photo of her horses eye and she gave me permission to use it for reference.  Anyways, this is what I drew from a blank piece of paper and drawing with my mouse.  It's a little more than a doodle because it took a few hours to do.  Fun challenge though now I really want a stylus and notebook!

Hope you like it!

Paint digital art

First try at this style of art.  Decided to do something COMPLETELY different than I've ever done before.  Opened the Windows Paint software that comes on almost all PC's and had a little fun.
I have a wireless mouse and let me tell you, that was not easy.  I think doing digi art with a stylus and tablet would be a lot easier but still, I had fun for a couple hours. This is a horses eye (in case you can't tell LOL ) And I did it using the oil paint brush.

Have any of you done digital art?  Have you thought about doing it? Do you like digital art or do you prefer traditional art?
Hope you like it :-)

Gesture doodles

My dog frequently has his ball between his paws after he retrieves it.  Today I decided to try and capture the gesture, lighting and expression while he laid there. I also tried for an expressive eye doodle.  I really need to bring out my good paper and use it even for doodling but alas, this one is on a very cheap "freebie" pad of paper supplied at the hospital here.  I mostly drew the dog using 3B and H pencils.  The eye was mostly drawn with a #2 pencil and at the end used a little bit of 2B as well.
Dog is approximately a 3" x 2.5" and the eye is a 2" x 1.5"
Hope you like them!
